What do I need?
Pregnancy Confirmation
The first thing you need to know is whether you are truly pregnant. A missed period or a positive pregnancy test could indicate that you are pregnant, but to be sure, you need to have the pregnancy confirmed by a medical professional. We can provide you with a lab-quality pregnancy test and subsequent ultrasound if your test is positive.
An ultrasound will show whether your pregnancy is viable and how far along you are. If you are considering abortion, this information is very important. How far along you are will determine the type of abortion procedure and the cost. If the pregnancy is not viable (no fetal heartbeat is detected) there will be no need for an abortion. If the pregnancy is developing somewhere other than the uterus, you will need immediate medical care.
STI Test
If you find yourself facing an unplanned pregnancy, you could also be at risk of having an STI (sexually transmitted infection). Since many women do not show symptoms in the early stages of infection, it can be hard to know if you have an STI.
Having an abortion when infected with an STI can do serious harm to your body. You’ll be required to have this testing done before an abortion. Jewel Women’s Center provides confidential testing and treatment at no cost for some of the most common STIs.
