I’m Already A Mom and Pregnant Again…How Can I Do This?

How can I do this again?

You love your children.

From rocking them to sleep and wiping their tears, to changing so many diapers. You’ve prepared countless snacks, and kissed so many boo-boos, you’ve done it all. You have been there for the messes and the milestones. You understand the joy of parenthood as well as the sacrifice it requires.

In this moment, you’re looking at two pink lines. Your first thought?

“I can’t do this again.”

Perhaps you’re thinking about the weariness, the money, and the emotional weight of it all. Perhaps, you are considering abortion, or maybe your partner is encouraging you to get an abortion.

If your already a mom and pregnant again, you’re not alone in this experience. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, about 27% of pregnancies in the US occur within 18 months of a previous birth.

You Are Not a Bad Mom for Feeling This Way

Feeling stretched thin doesn’t make you a bad mom.  And being a mom doesn’t make you immune to exhaustion. Maybe you feel stunned, terrified, or numb. This doesn’t mean you don’t love your kids. You’re experiencing normal emotions.

Another pregnancy may not have been part of your plan, and the thought of another child may be overwhelming, but you are not alone. Every day at Jewel, we speak with women already parenting who are suddenly dealing with an unexpected pregnancy. You don’t have to go through it by yourself.

You may be worried:

  • Another child is not affordable for me.
  • I don’t have the time and energy
  • My relationship is already under so much pressure.

These are valid concerns and you are not alone in how you feel.
